"...a great sound...absolutely thrilling to hear..."—Bar Harbor Times
The 2008-2009 Season
Tickets are now available for the Acadia Choral Society's holiday concert at St. Saviour's Church in Bar Harbor, on December 6 at 7:00 p.m. and December 7 at 3:00 p.m.
The program features music by contemporary British composer Paul Ayres—plus the Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan WIlliams, four selections by Samuel Barber, a set of Renaissance carols, and our traditional audience sing-along.
_____________
The Acadia Choral Society is a community chorus of about seventy members, who come from a wide geographical area that includes Hancock, Penobscot and Waldo Counties in Downeast Maine. Members include teachers, students, Jackson Lab scientists, artists, lawyers, doctors, librarians, stay-at-home moms and dads, and more. Some have been musically trained, while others are learning to read music.
Founded in 1978, the chorus was directed by Shirley Smith from 1984 to 2007. Dr. Jamie Hagedorn is the current music director, assisted by accompanist Julia Morris-Meyers.
The ACS performs a holiday concert the first weekend in December, and a spring concert the first weekend in May. Performances take place at St. Saviour's Church in Bar Harbor. We rehearse every Tuesday of our concert season at 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Ellsworth (121 Bucksport Rd.)
We do not require auditions, but you are asked to contact our director in advance of the first rehearsal. Members pay dues and music fees; scholarships are available.
